After decades of industry experience, luxury fashion veteran Shawn Pean is launching his own menswear brand.
Called June79, the brand is a full menswear collection featuring a modern take on suit separates that are made in the USA. Founded on the premise of multi-cultural resonance, June79 aims to hold an inherent understanding of the new luxury mindset, which speaks to the duality of grit and refinement within each consumer.
The brand is described as “understated yet polished with equal parts work performance and laid-back leisure while still allowing one to maintain a high level of professionalism.” Inspired by a mix of Pean’s childhood memories in Brooklyn, which evolved to work jaunts to Paris, June79’s menswear-inspired suiting separates are a mix of European sophistication and Brooklyn flair.
“We represent a new renaissance of luxury, from quality and craftsmanship to our mentality and lifestyle,” said Pean. “Our consumer knows they are wearing a brand that embodies their beliefs, respects their history and aspirations for greatness. The fact that we can make such a fine product in the USA is a testament that luxury can be designed and created in the very place we call home.”
Pean has a long-standing love affair with fashion and culture. His career and collective experiences formed the basis for June79. “I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world, discover beautiful clothing, meet amazing people, and experience beautiful cultures and communities,” he explained. “In many ways, June79 has always been there, but now is the right time for me to share my vision with those who value quality, craftsmanship, fit, and above all, a combination of style and comfort.”
Before launching June79, Pean founded Pean Group Six, a consulting company providing strategy and guidance to luxury brands and retailers globally. Prior to that, Pean served as president and managing director for Balmain USA and vice president of wholesale for Valentino USA. His experience in luxury retail began with a 9-year tenure at Saks Fifth Avenue where he held several positions including senior buyer for men’s accessories and footwear and outerwear.
Throughout his career, Pean has championed the importance of advancing Black talent within the fashion industry. He serves on the advisory board of Black In Fashion Council. In addition, serves as a DEI advisor and mentor at RAISEFashion, an organization dedicated to connecting Black-owned brands and individuals to fashion industry professionals for pro bono support. His work with June79 and his consulting business will continue his dedication and commitment to supporting Black talent.
The collection will be available this month at june79nyc.com.
